Recently, I invested in this health and fitness supplement reference guide.

Weight loss and muscle building supplements are a multi-billion dollar a year industry. There’s so much marketing and hype, it makes it difficult to know what’s legit and what’s a scam. So this reference has proven to be an incredible resource.

The two guys who put this reference guide together have tackled the problem head on. They’ve reviewed and researched hundreds of supplements. For over two years now they’ve been knee deep in studies and research papers. This is all in an effort to get to the truth.

They’ve cut to the chase and found out what works and what doesn’t, what will help you build muscle and burn fat, along with other health goals.

After going through this supplement guide, I’ve seen a lot of popular supplements that don’t do a thing. They’re about as useless as a hat full of busted holes.

5 Popular Weight Loss & Muscle Building Supplements That Don’t Perform As Advertised

 1. BCAAs

This is an easy one to fool people on. I used to buy them myself.

BCAA’s are essential branch chain amino acids. Amino acids that our bodies can’t make, so we have to eat protein to make sure we get them in our system.

Protein is an important element of the weight loss and muscle building equation. BCAA’s are at the core of a well defined muscular physique. They make up about 35% of our muscle mass. Without these essential elements, there won’t be any muscle growth.

Here’s the thing though.

You can easily get them in your diet. This is especially the case if you buy a quality protein. If you’re not sure if what you’re getting is any good, check the label. What we’re looking for is leucine, isoleucine, and valine. If it doesn’t contain these 3 BCAA’s, don’t buy it.

So eating high protein foods and protein powders without lots of fillers will more than meet your needs.

 2. Glucosamine

In the US, glucosamine is one of the most common non-vitamin, non-mineral, dietary supplements used by adults. That means big money to supplement companies. With that comes more ads and company sponsored studies to support its usefulness.

Just like the BCAA’s, I fell into this trap too. But it was more due to bro-science than anything else.

Running, lifting heavy, and working out in general can take a toll on your joints. You can get stiff and achey. Well back in the day, lots of guys in the gym said that you had to take glucosamine. What I was told was that it would help my joints over time so they didn’t get sore.

The fact is, it doesn’t help active people with their joint pain. Even when you pair it with supplemental chondroitin.

 3. Tribulus terrestris

Testosterone boosters are big business, and this may be the biggest one of them all.

This stuff flies off the shelves.

It does make you randy.

But doesn’t do a single thing to raise your testosterone. Increasing how frisky someone is doesn’t increase testosterone production. While we feel something and may think it’s working. It doesn’t.

This stuff doesn’t even work when injected into lab rats. So a little pill isn’t going to do a thing.

 4. Conjugated Linoleic Acid

You may know it as the weight loss wonder CLA. But a supplement under a different name doesn’t work any better.

 5. Glutamine

This is another tricky one.

They’re right in the fact that it does help build muscle. After all, it’s a naturally occurring amino acid and protein does build muscle. So it’s a logical conclusion to supplement with Glutamine.

What they don’t tell us is that the pill or powder that they sell…

needs to be injected.

When we swallow glutamine, it gets absorbed by the intestines. It never makes it to our muscle.

A total waste.

That’s just 5. There are lots more. The supplement companies are working hard to fool us and keep us in the dark.
